Part 4 - Music

Spiral.jpg

If you were told that all the Universe is music, how would you react? Would you in your rigid skepticism demand that your author show you all the evidence, or would you perhaps reject such an idea because it does not fit into your religious worldview?

Well, the evidence is all around you. The word Universe literally means “One Song” (Uni = One, Verse = Song). Regardless of what genre of music you prefer to listen to, you can feel it in all of your heart and soul as you cannot help but sway and stomp with the rhythm of your favorite song. You certainly have music selections that you rely on to inspire you, encourage you, and get you through your most difficult times. Every time you step outside you hear an orchestra of birds singing, insects chirping, and frogs croaking in a rhythm that can only be described as Mother Nature’s music.

The seven standard colors (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet) form into the color white when they merge together. Pure, white light is at the Source of the Universe, and it is the colors that we see that emerge out of it to give us a material world in which to learn and grow. It is especially noteworthy that there are also seven standard notes within music (A, B, C, D, E, F, G, also known as Do–Re–Mi–Fa–Sol–La–Si). This is no accident, because color and music are manifestations of the same thing…they are individuations of perfection. One could even consider the different shades and hues of colors and the sharps and flats of music notes as being emanations of the Holy Spirit as they give deeper emotional expression to the standard rules.

Music is not just an art…it is also a science. Anybody who studies music theory in any way will come to understand this. There is also an element of mathematics embedded within music. This points to the fact that music is not only a deterministic set of universal rules, but is also subjective in the sense that we can operate within these rules while creating unique arrangements through our personal thoughts and feelings. Music is essentially a paradox in that it is both objective and subjective simultaneously.

Music is the foundation of Natural Law. Just like music, Natural Law is a pre-determined set of rules that apply everywhere in the Universe at all times. But just like we have the ability to create music with our own choice arrangements, we have the Free Will to make life choices within the bounds of the set of rules. Depending on if our choices are harmonious or dissonant, the reality we create will mirror such expressions; depending on if the musical notes we pair together are harmonious or dissonant, the music we create will mirror such expressions.

Your unique pocket of consciousness is like a note within the orchestra of Life. All of us together make up different notes, each of us contributing our unique personality, talents, and gifts in the form of an energetic signature on the world’s sheet music. All of our evolutionary fates are tied together much like musical notes that make up a beautiful melody. There is a reason that you are here, right now, and that is to provide a key piece to the energetic orchestra we call humanity.

The underlying intelligence within nature (call it God, if you prefer) has created a set of universal principles that we all are bound by. These principles are there for our maximum evolutionary potential, just like principles within music are there to create harmony and beauty. The seven Hermetic Principles detailed within this article together are the foundation of Natural Law, and together in unity they are the source of the Universe’s music, and the Universe is in perfect harmony by virtue of these laws. They are not “new” and they are not beliefs. To be properly understood and appreciated, it is necessary for the individual to meditate upon them and see how they influence their personal life.

The first three laws are immutable, which means that they are absolute and can never be changed or transcended anywhere at any time. They have always existed and always will. The other four laws are mutable in the sense that they can be transcended or used wisely to create reality. Even though these laws are mutable, they still govern our existence and cannot be ignored or defied. All of us need to master every one of the Universal Laws and learn to transcend the mutable ones.

The Law of Mentalism (Immutable)

Mentalism.jpg

It should come to no surprise that the first universal principle is the Law of Mentalism. Consciousness must come first before material reality in order to first perceive it. There is a single Universal Consciousness from which all things manifest. On a personal level…first we think, then we feel, and then we act. Every single one of us is an aspect of the one Universal Mind experiencing itself.

In terms of music, any musician (amateur or professional) must first come up with a thought before writing. One may notice how so many songs sound so similar, and yet so different at the same time. Many artists unknowingly write a song that sounds so similar to another song where they end up getting backlash. Normally they do not intend to “steal” someone else’s work. A better way of viewing such a pattern is the fact that all humans share in a Collective Unconscious. Somebody may be inspired to write a song because they tap into the Collective Unconscious and connect with a particular tune that resonates with them. This would explain why various artists seem to re-create songs based upon that which has already been written. This notion is also seen in other big ideas that indiviudals seem to come up with at the same time independently in different parts of the world.

Seeing how the Universe is music in and of itself, humanity’s developing of music over thousands of years is a reflection of it as a collective evolving towards divinity by aligning with Natural Law. There is no better way to connect with the Universe than to understand music theoretically. Most songs follow a very simple chord progression, but the individual artists render a completely unique song through the use of different instruments, different overall melody, different rhythm, etc.

Law of Correspondence (Immutable)

Correspondence.jpg

There is a divine musical harmony that exists within us as a reflection of the greater cosmic orchestra. The Music of the Spheres is a concept that has been studied for a long time, which states that all the planets and moons have a unique tone based upon their orbital ratios. These tones together formulate a mathematical relationship which manifest in numbers, shapes, and sounds. The quality of life in the material plane reflects the symphonic, celestial sounds that are not perceivable through the physical senses.

What consciousness experiences in the material plane is mirrored by what consciousness focuses on in the mental plane, and it is the spiritual plane in-between that mediates this mirror effect both ways.

This reflection can be readily seen by observing the orbital patterns of planets and correlating them with the orbital patterns of atoms. On a more complex level, the inner-workings within large ecosystems also reflect that which takes place inside our cells. The symphony within every one of our cells is naturally in sync with the greater cosmos, and a disruption in our cellular activities reflects a disruption in the planets in our solar system, and vice versa.

The goal of humanity should be to tune itself to divine harmony and to ascend the metaphysical ladder toward the state of perfection that exists within Spirit.

Law of Vibration (Immutable)

Vibration.jpg

Energy is sound that resonates at different frequencies to produce colors that give us a means to understand and express Creation through the material plane. At the highest level, white light is all there is. This white light is splintered in the material plane, creating an illusion through the densification of matter.

All religious traditions in some way speak of the “Word” of God. Words that are verbally spoken produce wavelengths that reverberate through the air. Thus, one can equate the “Word of God” as being vibration…the spark that begins the Grand Orchestra that is the Universe. Because all words have a unique vibrational pattern to them, their energy influences the material plane in ways we cannot readily see. We all must be mindful of the words we speak, because this energy permeates reality all around us and is involved in the manifestation of our creative power.

Does this resonate with you? Are we on the same wavelength? Are you in tune with Natural Law? Did this strke a chord within you? Are you getting good vibrations? Did your author compose this article eloquently? Are we in concert with one another?

Law of Polarity (Mutable)

Polarity.jpg

Mark Passio’s words concerning Polarity deserve to be quoted in full here:

“There are only two forces at work in all of Creation. These two Polarities have always been continuously struggling against each other. One of these forces is the force which expands Consciousness and awakens parts of the Creation to the understanding and realization of itself. This could be seen as the Light force, for it attempts to make things known, bring them into the Light, and reveal the Truth. The other force is that which attempts to shut Consciousness down and keep the parts of the Creation in ignorance of itself. This could be seen as the Dark force, which attempts to shut out the Light of knowledge and to keep us in a state resembling sleep, in which we are unconscious to Truth.

At an even simpler level, we could look at these Polarities as feelings. We really only ever experience two basic feelings. One is a good feeling and one is a bad feeling. Every other possible state of emotion is simply a different expression of these two basic feelings. If we boil it down to its essence, there are really only two possible emotions, or forces of Polarity, that we are capable of experiencing.

This inherent duality that we experience in and around ourselves is not chance or accident. It is done by the design of Creation. Creation is Oneness. Non-Duality. Think about it this way: if there is only one thing, how would that state of Oneness ever really be able to know itself unless it experienced that which it is not? There is no hot without cold, no light without dark, no good without evil, and so on. So Creation brought one of these Polarities into manifestation in order to know itself - through the process of understanding what it is not. This means that ultimately, one of the two Polarities is an illusion.”

As a collective orchestra full of unique musical notes, we can play a melody that is harmonious and beautiful, or chaotic and dissonant. As individuals we have the choice to express our unique energy to the greatest potential with harmonious thoughts, emotions, and actions based upon Truth, Love, and Freedom…or we have the choice of dissonance through Lie, Fear, and Chaos. Either way, the Universe will reflect back to each one of us (and as a collective) the consequences of our behavior.

“All the world is a stage.”

There are themes that consistently appear in humanity’s creations of art in the form of theater, t.v. shows, films, books, opera, etc. These Dramas usually take the form of a Tragedy or a Comedy, intermixed with other elements. There is something about experiencing Polarity—both the highs and lows—that touches the human heart and soul. Experiencing suffering is what gives us a deeper appreciation for goodness.

Music is both objective and subjective at the same time…creating a paradox. Humans have both the capability to produce elegant, light music that mimics patterns within nature that are harmonious, as well as jarring, heavy music that mimics the patterns within nature that are decomposing and aggressive.

The goal of humanity should be to mimic those elements of nature that are harmonious and cooperative, rising out of the chains that bind us to animal consciousness.

Law of Rhythm (Mutable)

Rhythm.jpg

Within music, the songs that seem to touch us most are those that include both major and minor chords. Major chords give us a happy feeling, while minor chords tend to produce a sad feeling within us. Throughout the course of the song, these fluctuations in chords give depth to the overall message. When we experience sadness in the middle of the song, we return to a state of happiness upon the song’s completion with the major chords.

Classical compositions are even more sophisticated. Many compositions transition between different keys, usually forming a distinct set of pieces that are all interrelated. Keys within music are composed of a different set of musical notes depending on their mathematical sequence. When a composition begins in one key, say the key of G, it usually begins with the note of G and ends with the note of G, giving us a sense of completion.

The rhythms of music are deeply embedded within the rhythms of nature. Seasons all have their unique attributes and all serve a purpose within the greater cycle of our planet. While winter is commonly regarded as a bitter aspect of Mother Nature, it can be seen as a time of reflection and a time of close social bonding that seem to slightly fade during the busy warmer seasons.

Our bodies are habituated to a natural Circadian Rhythm that tells our brains when it is time to sleep so we can sub-consciously recharge and process the experiences we went through during waking hours. Day and night are part of the natural rhythm of nature, giving us a means to explore and understand the material plane through the opportunity of change.

Within ecosystems, animal populations can explode for a number of different reasons, but nature always has a way to compensate through the manifestation of other factors that will dwindle a population down to a more balanced level. While fire is seen as a destructive force, it actually replenishes and revitalizes soil to give plants a means to diversify and flourish. Internally, this understanding can be symbolically represented through difficult experiences giving our soul (soil) the opportunity to grow and learn.

Law of Cause and Effect (Mutable)

Causality.jpg

Truth is everything that has happened in the past and what is happening in the present. One cannot alter the Truth. If one is going to make a change within one’s life, then it is necessary to observe the effects present in their life and to modify their behavior based upon the root cause of the problem. The same goes for all of humanity…instead of treating the symptoms, it is necessary to strike at the root of the issue that caused the problems in the first place.

Musically speaking, if a band is playing together it is necessary for all of their instruments and vocals to be in tune with one another. To not do so would result in a disharmonious performance. This disharmony could lead to a manifestation of other problems, including the band members feeling disconnected enough to trick themselves into believing that they cannot work together and must go their separate ways. A proper way of fixing the problem would be to strike at the root of the issue in why they are so disharmonious. Ensuring that their instruments are tuned to the same key would surely give them a better chance at harmonizing with one another. If band members depart, is it truly because of creative differences, or is it more because of ego-imbalance?

In an orchestra, the same is true for all the performers. But at the head of the orchestra is a maestro who leads the rhythm, tonality, and synchronization of all the players and their instruments. If the maestro is not performing at their best, the performers will end up becoming out of sync and ultimately creating a less pleasant version of the composition they are playing. In this case, the maestro is the root of the problem, and should correct their performance to reestablish harmonization.

Law of Gender (Mutable)

Gender.jpg

It first needs to be stated that the mutability of the Universal Law of Gender does not apply to biological sexes. Biological sexes are fixed…males and females are born with specific genitalia, hormone levels, and brain patterns. But what IS mutable is Mental Gender. Both men and women have two distinct brain hemispheres, and both men and women have the capability to synchronize both aspects of consciousness in balance and unity: intellect and intuition, logic and creativity, objective reason and compassionate feeling.

It is the thought (Sacred Masculine) that seeks to first understand the objective structure of music, but it is through our emotions (Sacred Feminine) that we feel the inspiration to render lyrics, melodies, and rhythms. Both aspects of our consciousness are needed to write and perform music. The song we create in the material plane may be considered the Divine Child (Body), which is a product of the union of the Divine Father (Mind) and the Divine Mother (Spirit).

In Opera (whether you enjoy it or not), there is almost always a dialogue between a male and female. Similar themes run through all operas concerning the resolution of a conflict between the male and female in some way. It is as if it is ingrained in human consciousness for both males and females to find a way to harmoniously exist. This can only be done if one’s Mental Gender is in sync.

No choir gives us a sense of completion more than one that has a harmonious mix of both males and females. Female voices range from Soprano, Mezzo-soprano, and Contralto. Male voices range from Countertenor, Tenor, Baritone, and Bass. Every single one of these vocal styles produce a particular tone, that when properly trained, adds to the symphony of other vocal ranges. The end result is a feeling of divine perfection. While not everybody possesses the natural gift of singing, every single one of us still has a unique energetic signature that is expressed in different ways in the world. It is up to us to tune into our signature so we can lend our gifts and talents for the betterment of all humanity. If we are going to have a harmonious world, then it is imperative that we all learn to “sing” together harmoniously through our every thought, emotion, and action.
